I'm...Hey, Tim, thank you for stopping by again. I'm glad the ending was satisfying. I admit that sometimes I don't work things out enough in my stories, and sometimes it backfires. To answer your question, here are two quotes from the story:

“I promised your mother I’d have you in bed by nine o’clock, and it’s now eight-fifty-five.”

“Well, will you look at that? I gave you the story and still have a minute to spare.”

Intending to keep his promise, Jarol played with the time on his own clock. This is why I made a deal about his inhale and exhale, his way of sucking and slowing down the clock. It was subtle, I know, and probably too subtle. When Tommy shows him the watch, one that was tucked away and now shows 9:15 instead of 8:59, it's his way of showing that he knows his grandfather's a wizard of sorts.Stephenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04753736809917062955noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1064125998898504251.post-48371203463029715842011-03-28T11:36:07.852-05:002011-03-28T11:36:07.852-05:00This is a great little tale with a very satisfying...This is a great little tale with a very satisfying ending. Although i'm a bit confused about the kid's watch saying 9.15. Did i miss something?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1064125998898504251.post-68425526046140450032011-03-28T10:01:25.634-05:002011-03-28T10:01:25.634-05:00Thank you for all the wonderful feedback, everyone...Thank you for all the wonderful feedback, everyone.

Steve: Yes, the story is loosely based upon my own experiences as a father, hearing all of the great reasons why my children have to stay up a little longer or climb out of bed just one more time.

Deanna: The best storytellers are those that can really capture the moment. Jarol not only captured it, he lived it.

Harry: I wish it were true. Most of the time when I try to tell a tale, my kids tell me to quit. They're apparently too grounded to listen to ol' dad spin a yarn.

Eric: Yes, myth and reality do meet. And that's the best part, when the oldest one picks up on it. Which is why he wanted Jarol to tell that story. It was the longest one, and that gave him more time to prove that he knew the truth. A smart kid.

Paige: You mean you don't have blue light? Okay, everyone, nobody tell her that she's the only one who doesn't have blue light. We want everyone to feel excepted. :)

Tim: You knew her and lived to tell about it? Then you probably know Jarol as well, right? That's cool.

John: Thanks for the comment. I do try to stretch things, attempting to move in different directions all the time, and I'm glad they work out okay.Stephenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04753736809917062955noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1064125998898504251.post-58848677082020619252011-03-27T09:44:07.681-05:002011-03-27T09:44:07.681-05:00Haha, I made the pleasant mistake of reading your ...Haha, I made the pleasant mistake of reading your comment before the tale, Stephen, and for a while thought the David/Goliath match-up was one of Kids/Caretaker. I enjoyed the bedside manner. You stretch more than most #fridayflash writers with the types of tales you attempt. I admire it, especially since they all wind up good.John Wiswellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07416044628686736927noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1064125998898504251.post-61967271115066934442011-03-26T09:19:07.177-05:002011-03-26T09:19:07.177-05:00Ah, I knew the dragon lady. The dialogue, the setting, the characters, (interestingly, the description of the boys, all of them, round out my youngest son quite well), everything here is perfect.
