I wanted the reader to feel as if it could be anyone's story, taking place right now anywhere in the world. I am glad it came across as such.Stephenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04753736809917062955noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1064125998898504251.post-46960294639407332532014-01-25T21:07:33.773-06:002014-01-25T21:07:33.773-06:00No worries, John. Looking back, I now realize there were times my parents quietly suffered through the '70s and '80s, while their three boys never knew. In a way, it makes me sad; in other ways, I am grateful for such love. It always comes as a surprise to me to see people suddenly separate after years of being together, and sometimes it happens to coincide with the departure of children from the home. It makes me wonder what one, or both, endured over the years, and then the resolve to stick it out for the kids. And how much of their soul was lost in the process? How much of them died during those years? Thankfully, Mrs. B and Me are going strong.Stephenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04753736809917062955noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1064125998898504251.post-73773738540109196292014-01-24T21:52:33.269-06:002014-01-24T21:52:33.269-06:00I think you captured the child's point of view...I think you captured the child's point of view perfectly and the controlled emotion the mother shows in her thoughts about how life can be truly unfair.

This was a poignant pieces and contained a realness to the subject matter, that made me as the reader, feel as though I was in the room unnoticed, watching it all happen.

Excellent work Stephen. Like Steve, the whining about leftovers turned me against the kid faster than the almost silly murder-talk of the opening, and I hoped that the parents wouldn't actually get whacked just for having such a kid.John Wiswellhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07416044628686736927noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1064125998898504251.post-3582491780149623982014-01-24T19:07:45.915-06:002014-01-24T19:07:45.915-06:00Yes, very powerful story, one that I can relate to...Yes, very powerful story, one that I can relate to all too well....She seems quite strong though so I'm certain life will take a positive turn for them both, and soon.
